A. Entry to the Lower School Entry into the Lower School is not selective by ability nor dependent upon entry examination. However, for entry at any point clause (3) below applies. Registration for nursery entry (1). Admission to the school is usually into the nursery in the September following a child's 3rd birthday. Registration is strictly on a first-come first-served basis within the guidelines set out below in sections (2) and (3). Prospective parents may put their names down when the child's approximate date of birth is known. The date of this initial entry will dictate the position on the waiting list. Once a child is born he/she will be placed on the relevant gender list. Places will be offered according to the priorities set out below in the September three years before entry (e.g. places will be confirmed in September 2005 for September 2008). Upon confirmation of a place being taken up the non-returnable registration fee will become payable to secure the place. Co-education (2). Woodford Green Preparatory School is
co-educational and, as such, it is regarded as both socially and
educationally desirable to maintain the balance, as far as is
practicable, between the numbers of pupils of each gender.
Consequently, with a year group size of 48, every effort will be made
by the school to ensure that the ratio of one gender to the other will
be balanced. Therefore, once the number of pupils of one gender
registered for a single year group reaches 50% of the capacity, further
applications for children of that gender will be placed on that
gender's waiting list. Should the full 50% of capacity not be taken up
by the other gender either by initial registration or from the waiting
list, the remaining places will be allocated according to position on
the waiting list. (3) The school reserves the right to refuse entry at any point to a pupil who the school does not consider would be able to benefit from the whole educational experience offered. Waiting Lists (4) Pupils on the two gender waiting lists will be allocated places when they become available according to the following criteria: 1st priority: gender balance 2nd priority: children of employees 3rd priority: siblings of current pupils 4th priority: order of being placed on the list Entry to the upper school for external candidates (Yrs 3-6) is
selective by academic assessment conducted by the school either on
scheduled entry test days (annually in February or March) or by
individual assessment should a place become available at another time.
Taking into account the desirability of maintaining gender balance,
places will be offered as a result of the academic assessment. |
